It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

On Friday, Simon went for his 9-month checkup. The doctor said he looked great. His stats are below.

Weight: 18 lb 11 oz (25th percentile)
Height: 28.5 inches (75th percentile)
Head: 18.75 inches (97th percentile)

Long and lean, blond and blue, with a monster, over-sized cranium. We don't know where he gets these characteristics. :)

He got the all clear to start eating "Puffs," mashed bananas, and other first foods. The first attempts have resulted in a lot of sour and puzzled faces, but not much success. More on this as it develops.

On Saturday, Cort's mom and dad came down for a visit. We met them at Jackson's Orchard, where the first day of the Pumpkin Festival was occuring. Simon got to see pumpkins for the first time, and he had a lot of fun.

Laurie, Cort, and Simon in front of a wall of pumpkins.

Who is bigger ... Simon or the pumpkin? (Note to the reader: Simon did really well standing and beating on the pumpkin, but hit the dirt *literally* a couple of minutes after this pic was taken.)

So many pumpkins to choose from!

YaYa and Papa bought some apples, and Simon thought he'd try one.

Sad Days

There's a lot that has happened within the last week. We had planned to go to Burkesville last Saturday so Simon could meet his Great-Great-Aunts Maedell, Jean, and Marg and his cousin Marleen. However, we received a phone call early that morning that Jean had passed away unexpectedly the night before. Although they never met in person, Jean and Simon got to know each other through pictures, cards, and gifts.

WKU vs. EKU

This past weekend was quite busy. On Friday night, I went to a Ladies' Night Out at church. While I was gone, Cort prepared some homemade Indian dishes for his dinner. Ask him about them sometime!

On Saturday, we tailgated with some friends at the WKU vs. EKU game -- a huge rivalry around here! Here is a picture of me and Simon with friends Liz and Aiden Renfrow.

Simon and Cort enjoying the game. Or, Cort enjoying the game and Simon enjoying his toys.

Simon liked to clap when the Hilltoppers scored!

On Sunday, we went to Glasgow to go to church and visit with Nana B and Granddaddy. He got to meet another new friend, Tristan Muse.

First WKU Football Game

A week ago Saturday, Cort played solo in Breck County. While all the other groups were Southern Gospel groups, they were gracious to let him play with them. :)

Simon, getting to know his new friend, Pooh. They decided to wear matching red shirts.

On Saturday, Simon, Uncle David, and I went to the first home WKU football game of the 2007 season. Cort was sad he couldn't go, as he had a Redfoot concert in Hartford, KY, at the same time. As we walked through the tailgaters, Simon gave us the "big eye."

Simon and me during the game. He was much more interested in his blue ring than what was happening on the field -- probably because the halftime score was 52 to 0.
